Say it ain't so, Obama

We here at FanSherpa are big fans of Barack Obama AND the Chicago Cubs ... serious fans of the Cubs, fans that can tell you the starting line-up of the 1984 division champs, fans that happily freeze their asses off at Opening Day every year, and fans that go to games at Wrigley Field to see, ya' know, baseball. And we like Read More>>

Is there a better reason to get rid of the 7th Inning stretch than this??

This has got to stop. The Cubs are supposedly a professional baseball team and you get idiots like this that are making the whole thing a joke. In the future the Cubs should possibly think about the following criteria in order to be allowed to sing, 1) Can sing in tune, 2) Cubs fan and/or 3) Have some Read More>>

Equity Seat Rights ... sounds good

PSLs are among the most annoying inventions ever to sports fans ... 'Sure, I'd be happy to plunk down a couple grand simply for the right to then plunk down a few more grand for season tickets. Are you done Mr Owner or should I continue to bend over?' So it's kind of exciting to read this story today about something called Read More>>

Rip them MFers!!

It was 25 years ago today that then-Cubs manager Lee Elia went on the greatest recorded verbal tirade in sports history. His Cubs had just fallen to 5-14 and the fans had been booing his team, so Elia was, um, upset about it. This tirade rises above all others because it was full of f-bombs and other clever wordplay, but it was also Read More>>

Show your devotion even in death

It's now possible for the die-hard Cubs fan to show their loyalty even after they, you know, die. There are these stylish urns available for your ashes, and they come with various team logos, not just the Cubs. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/slezak/892526,CST-SPT-urn1 3.article Some Read More>>

Cubs finally honor Ernie... but oh the irony

So the Cubs finally, very much belatedly honored their greatest player with a statue in front of Wrigley Field... and they screwed it up. The base of the statue is emblazoned with Banks' famous quote, "Lets Play Two." Yea, missing apostrophe and all. I'm sure some out there will say the screw-up is pretty symbolic for a Read More>>

Hey AT&T, let Harry rest in peace

AT&T has launched a series of commericials featuring a Harry Caray imitator, and we here at Fan Sherpa are not amused. The spots aren't funny or effective - yes, I'm talking about it but I had to look up on-line what product was being pushed because I couldn't even recall. And the actor seems to be doing more an imitation of Will Read More>>

Finally, sell-outs at The Cell

It's not at all clear what's going to happen with the Cubs and Wrigley Field, and rumors have been flying all over the place. The latest has Wrigley being renovated in a year or so and the Cubs playing at US Cellular field while that's happening. Isn't that the ultimate White Sox fan's nightmare realized? It actually Read More>>

Steve Stone going south... turn up the Sox game Cubs fans

Cubs fans may have a new viewing tradition this season ... turn down the game on the TV and turn up the Sox game on the radio. Stoney is going to the South Side, which is almost like finding out a younger Greg Maddux signed with the Sox... he's ours, we don't understand why he was let go in the first place, and now he's exercising his Read More>>

Don't get comfy with that 'Wrigley' name

The new owner of the Tribune Company and the Cubs has reiterated that he plans to get some money out of the name of the ballpark at Clark and Addison, whether it be from Wrigley or whomever else. Like many Cubs fans I think I've been in denial over this; maybe it's the general state of the Cubs fan this time of year. But this has been Read More>>

Hey Cubs' fans, who's girlicious??

Fans who don't have cable or live outside the Chicago area and who want to tune in Cubs' games this summer will mostly be out of luck. While WGN has been the home to Cubs baseball for 60 years (be ready to hear that repeated about a kazillion times this summer) there have been fewer and fewer games on the superstation each season. Ten Read More>>

I have seen a sign Cubs fans

I made the trek down to Wrigley Field last night to pick up a wrist band for the ticket lottery, so of course had to invite along a buddy and make a night of it. We had burgers and beers at Murphy's before crossing the street and being led into the bowels of Wrigley to get our bands. I have #11,881. Just glanced at my wrist to Read More>>

Ryan Dempster's a funny guy

So Ryan Dempster arrives at spring training and predicts the Cubs will win the Series, and knowing his personality you don't know how to take it. It actually might be kinda cool if Derek Lee made such a statement, and you'd be like, 'F--- yea, we're winning it all this year!" But this is Dempster, a competent if unspectacular pitcher Read More>>

20 things every Chicago fan should do... or not

The Chicago Sun-Times has a short guide for Chicago baseball fans planning on heading to spring training this year and, for those stuck at home, a list of 20 things every Chicago sports fans should experience. Watching the movie 'Brian's Song' is number 1... good movie but strange choice. The number 1 thing to "experience" Read More>>

Truly a Sad Sight

While at the Cubs Clubhouse store in the Water Tower place this weekend I stumbled across the sale rack. The pictured rack actually contained some really ugly pajamas as well as the Prior jerseys. I remember seeing him beat the Yankees on a Sunday night game in 2003 and thinking this guy is going to be doing this for the next 15 Read More>>
